downsized_0703091412My teammate Matt Kresch and I just went to a local field this past weekend and had a great time. We found out that on the paintball field, our team was stronger when Matt and I stuck together.  It seemed like the Teamwork we practiced could overcome any opposing team we encountered.  No matter how good of a team we were facing, as long as we worked togther, no one could beat us!  We also learned that when you are waiting to play another game, do not wait on the field; stay in a netted area until the game is over.  When we didn’t do this, we were hit by so many stray paintballs, it was out of control.  In my opinion, getting hit by a stray paintball is worse that getting hit by one in the game, because you’re never ready for one to hit you when you’re on the sidelines.  I’m sure most players know this also, but keep your mask on even after you get hit and are walking of the field.  I saw so many people, getting hit and then taking their mask off.  I thought, “ARE THEY OUT OF THEIR MINDS?”.  Safety is number one on the field, so be careful at all times, and don’t do anything stupid.  Overall, we had a great day and learned a lot.  We worked on talking to each other the whole game, letting each other know where the other team was located.  We found out quickly… it helps your teammates, when you tell them where the other team’s players are on the field!

Sponsorship; the one thing every paintball team wants to have.  Most players looking for sponsors think its all about getting free stuff. In reality, what sponsorship is really all about is the relationship you have with a company who agrees to sponsor you. Sponsors are really great to have but only if you help them out…. one way to do this is by putting their name on your equipment and spreading the word about that company.  Another way to support them is to buy your gear from them!  Sponsors are great to have when your playing paintball, and plus it really puts the icing on the cake if you want your team to look official.  Whenever I go to a paintball field, the thing that catches my eye the most is the players wearing jerseys with different sponsors names all over them.  You have to remember though, a sponsorship is a comittment so if you can’t complete what the sponsor asks of your team, then don’t get involved in the first place.  Another important decision to make is choosing who you want to be sponsored by; you don’t want to represent a company that rips people off or has bad products, etc.  So before you get sponsored, make sure you can complete what the sponsor is looking for in your team, and make sure you pick the sponsorship that is right for your team.

nextlevel31Being on a paintball team is really great, but the most important thing is teamwork.  Your team has to work together to get wins.  Make sure to always talk on the field while playing; communication during play is absolutely crucial.  The most important thing on the field is to keep talking throughout the game.  If at any point in a game you stop talking, you can quickly lose the game; a lot happens very quickly during a speedball match.  You might have had everything hashed out (strategies, moves, etc.) but everything can change in a split second so on-the-field commands and coms are key.  Remember that every player on your team is your friend; never get mad at your teammate for making a mistake on the field.  Any paintball team loses and wins as a team.  Never blame a loss on a teammate, it just ruins your friendship with that player and it does absolutely nothing but make the two of you mad at each other.  Also never rely on just one good player to win the game for you, because when/if you let your guard down, you can lose a game very quickly.  There’s no way around it, teamwork is absolutely key to winning on the field.  So always remember to communicate on the paintball field; always know where your teammates are, and be friends with the whole team.

p8ntballcompetition_index_ctrpic.jpgBefore starting a game, strategize with your team to decide on who’s going to go where and how you’re going to move on the paintball field as a team.  Practice these maneuvers regularly so your movements are almost automatic. It’s also a good idea to practice vocal commands and hand signal communications as part of your strategic movement on the paintball field. It’s super important to make sure you know where everyone else on your team is going and where they’re at. Make sure all parts of the field are covered. If one spot is open, that gives the other team a great advantage right from the start. Also, make sure you can get to good cover where you can fire shots, but still be protected. Make sure you don’t over populate an area; if you have three guys behind a one man bunker, you give the other team a great opportunity to get quick outs, so spread out. Finally, KEEP MOVING; if you don’t, the other team can quickly move up and surround you. Try not to stay in one spot for too long and remember to keep moving forward unless you’re making lateral moves to flank your opponent.

paintball1.jpgI very much like jerseys, they are a cool part of the paintball garb for their different looks and styles.  Generally, you can buy them front certain name brand companies, or you can even customize your own to have your team name, sponsors or even your name/nickname and team number.  They are also a uniform which makes the sport more organized and not just a bunch of guys shooting each other in the woods.  You can even customize paintball jerseys to have padding, or thumb holes, or you name on the color; you can even put mesh lining on the sides to make it more breathable.  When all your team members are wearing the same jerseys, you feel like a force to be reckoned with when you walk onto the paintball field - they definitely give you a bit more confidence…. because they make you look like a professional paintballer!  Jerseys are also kind of baggy and sometimes will reduce the pain of being hit with a paintball.  I feel that if you are becoming greatly involved in the sport of paintball, a jersey is a key point on your check list of things to get.

p8ntballcompetition_index_ctrpic.jpgHere are some tips on playing speedball. First and foremost, make sure you learn ALL the rules, and know how the game is played before even stepping foot on paintball field.  Try to practice moves and strategies ahead of time, and learn the right way to slide and dive - before your first real match. It’s very important that you  stay safe while playing - make this your first priority with a good set of paintball goggles, knee and elbow pads and a barrel cover for your paintball gun. You should also know how to quickly reload your hopper without spilling your whole pod - and be able to do this on the go! When you first walk onto the field, you want to look like you know what you’re doing, at least a little bit - dress the part, get a paintball jersey and maybe some matching pants.  Also while on the field, know the positions such as back man, middle man, and so on.  You need to know where you are so you can communicate and cover your teammates.  It is important to know the names of the bunkers such as dorito, temple, and many others.  Be aware of your position, so you know where to look, and move while playing.  Remember to never let your guard down.  If you don’t pay attention for one second, you could be out of the game.  Always constantly scan the field for players.  Know where your enemies are, but also know where your teammates are, so if they get out, you know to cover their position. So remember…. before playing speedball - know the rules, the field, and positions (including the positions of yourself and teammates). The most important thing to remember is to have fun!

paintball-pics-004.jpgWe are Team Trinity!  We are a 3-man woodsball/scenario team.  We have been to Invasion Normandy at Skirmish USA 4 times and are also going this summer.  We are also interested in speedball tournaments but have yet to be involved in this type of competition.  We plan on getting our name out there and expanding our team to more new and experienced players.  We want to play for as long as we can and we feel being on a team that is sponsored and involved in competitions would help motivate us and keep us goal oriented.  Our main priorities are to represent our team and our sponsors in a sportsman-like way, promote paintball in a positive light and bring new energy to the sport.  We practice/play on our own in a large patch of woods near my house we’ve set up with bunkers and obsticles; we’ve even set up a target range to practice on.
So far, our team roster is the following:
Matt Kresch - Captain - assualt/support team - Smart Parts Ion.
Mike Morton - assualt/support team - Planet Eclipse ETek 2 and Tactical Alpha Black (Camo edition).
Justin Edelbach - Base of Fire team - Tippmann 98 custom.
We have all been playing paintball for 5-6 years and are happy to say we are now sponsored by www.choicepaintballguns.com!  You can read some of our blogs in the forum section of their website and also www.choicepaintballgunsblog.com.

paintball-pics-011.jpgDo you believe that your paintball team is the best team that exists on the face of the earth? You know you can win every single competition out there, if you only had the money for plane tickets, travel and all the necessary paintball gear! Imagine this: being paid big bucks to travel the world to do nothing but play paintball!  There are many, many paintball teams, but only a lucky few are actually sponsored by the big leagues. But if you set this as your goal, you and your team can have a lot of great times trying to reach it - even if you fall short.
There are many levels of paintball sponsorship. One thing’s for sure though…. if you want to play in the big leagues, you have to put your time in and climb the ladder. You have to start small and work your way to the top. Don’t start by asking Spyder if they will give you and your teammates all new paintball guns, jerseys and 10 boxes of paintballs every month. Let us give you their answer: NO!!!  Remember it’s the smaller companies (like www.choicepaintballguns.com) who will carry you and feed you along your way to the top. Sometimes you can score a sponsorship with a local paintball shop. These are generally good for getting reduced rates of play on the field, paintballs, general paintball equipment and maybe they’ll throw in a couple of t-shirts for you guys. I just went to Skirmish this last weekend, for the invasion of Normandy. I had a great time with my friends.  Everyone there was nice and friendly.  It was nonstop fun when the doors dropped at 12, and it didnt end until 1 the next day.  All kinds of marker dealers such as Tippmann, and Eclipse were there.  There were more than 4,000 people there for this great weekend.  All the players camped out on the field Friday and Saturday night. I had a great time and I hope to go again for many years to come.  Everything ran smoothly, and was started and finished on time.  I doubt that there was anyone there who had a bad time.  I will never forget that experience, and I hope to return again next year. If you like big scenario paint ball games, I highly recommend going to Skirmish for the Invasion of Normandy.
